World Diabetes Day is observed every year on 14th November to create awareness about diabetes prevention, early detection, and management. S THANGAPAZHAM NURSING COLLEGE Vasudevanallur organized an awareness programme for the local community with the theme Diabetes across of life stages
2. Objectives of the Programme
To create awareness on diabetes and its prevention.
To educate people on healthy lifestyle and diet modifications.
To identify high-risk individuals through screening.
To provide counselling and medical guidance
b. Health Awareness Session
Health education talk was given by the s.thangapazham college of nursing students team and staff nurse.
Topics covered:
Causes and types of diabetes
Signs and symptoms
Importance of blood sugar monitoring
Lifestyle modification, diet, and exercise
Complications of uncontrolled diabetes
3. Diet counselling
Medication adherence guidance for known diabetic patients
4. Participation Details
Student Nurses and Nursing Staff from the Department of Medical–Surgical Nursing, S. Thangapazham College of Nursing, actively participated in the programme and supported all activities.
Total participants: 14 nursing students
Newly identified high-risk cases: 05
Known diabetic patients attended: 20
5. Outcome of the Programme
Improved community awareness about diabetes.
Identified high-risk individuals for further follow-up.
Encouraged lifestyle modification among participants.
Strengthened community–health centre collaboration.
6. Conclusion
The World Diabetes Day programme at PHC Vasudevanallur was conducted successfully with active involvement from the community, PHC staff, and the student nurses of S. Thangapazham College of Nursing. The programme effectively promoted early screening and awareness, contributing to better health outcomes.
